Project - learn Dreamweaver CS3
Dreamweaver is a widely used Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the Web.
"IDEs are designed to maximize programmer productivity by providing tightly-knit components with similar user interfaces. This should mean that the programmer has much less mode switching to do than when using discrete development programs. However, because an IDE is by its very nature a complicated piece of software, this high productivity only occurs after a lengthy learning curve." - wikipedia
This is a good project if your professional goals are oriented toward other design fields such as Graphic Design, Advertising, etc. Most significant contemporary design projects are team efforts where the "design" phase is primarily a process of ideation and rapid sketches. Additionally, more and more clients expect an integrated design service/solution. In this environment an understanding of designing for the Web and the ability to rapidly develop sketches and comps of websites, and other interactive deliverables, is strong plus.

The Dreamweaver CS3 project is an Introduction to Adobe's Dreamweaver CS3 application.
This project is good for those who are new to web design and development. It is also aimed at those of you who have a little experience designing web page layout but would like to more clearly understand, and be able to use, a professional rapid development environment for the Web.
If you select this project you will spend the first part of this semester carefully and sequentially learning the core interface and functionality of Dreamweaver CS3.
First we'll make a starter website to learn the application interface and the basics of building a simple website. During this initial portion of the project we'll work through several exercises where you will learn 1) the basic functionality of Dreamweaver; layout, navigation, structure, and styling, 2) the procedures for structuring a website; making the directories and files, and, 3) the methods used to move local files to and from your web server.
Once you have the basics mastered you can move on to design and build a website of your own design.
Dreamweaver is closely integrated with all of Adobe's applications. It generates HTML source code, Cascading Style Sheets and some interactive Javascript (Spry widgets) through a visual interface. It is widely used by various visual designer's for rapid design development of client website comps which are often part of a larger project.
Dreamweaver experience and ability is often one of the qualifications for a range of entry level jobs:

The goal of this project
is, by the end of this semester, to have you feeling comfortable with the Dreamweaver CS3 interface and feature set so you can readily make a basic website.
We will develop a class timeline/calendar for this project.
