Getting Started...

Before we start working on project design and development we have some setup to do. If necessary you can do all of this at the UI Help Desk. A working UI account is required.

All interaction design projects require some setup time. Since most of the projects for this semester require the Web (and some of it's services) it is essential that you have a fully functioning webspace. Either hosted on UI servers or with an ISP (Internet Service Provider) of your choice.

Normally your UI account is setup for you when you register for courses. This account provides you with a number of Internet services, e.g. email. I have requested UI ITS to also setup a web space inside your home directory. In that directory you should see another directory named "web pages". To make sure all is well, do this now (we'll also do all this in-class):

  1. Login to your UI account and make sure your password works.
  2. Look through your home directory and find the directory named "web pages".

note: If you have any problems with your login to your UI account you may need to visit the UI Help Desk.
If you already have a webspace on UI servers, or, have webspace on external non-UI servers, make sure that you can access that space and are able to move files to and from that server space. Your webspace on UI servers is not accessible via ftp (File Transfer Protocol).

  3. Login to your UI e-support (see the left sidebar) account and make sure you understand how to manage your UI account(s).
